The connection between Artificial Intelligence and health and fertility issues came to the fore during the 11th Delphi Economic Forum. Infertility, which affects 15% of couples wishing to become parents, is a problem that requires targeted solutions, with the couple's health playing a decisive role in this process.
Professor of Pediatrics and Endocrinology, George Chrousos, emphasized the necessity of the Use of Artificial Intelligence in medical practice. According to him, big data analysis incorporates new data into diagnosis and treatment, radically transforming approaches to public health and medical prediction. At the same time, he referred to the negative effects of chronic stress that has intensified in modern life and the recognition of infertility.
Konstantinos Stratakis, Professor of Medicine and Director of Human Genetics at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, said that Artificial Intelligence is crucial for understanding the genetic and environmental parameters that influence fertility. In this process, data analysis can become crucial, identifying causes of infertility and contributing to decision-making on diagnosis and treatment.
Melpomeni Peppa, Professor of Endocrinology, emphasized the connection between obesity and fertility, noting that obesity seriously affects the health of women and men and requires personalized therapeutic approaches. Artificial Intelligence can offer solutions in combating this social problem.
Sofia Kalandaridou, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, expressed her concern about the environmental causes of infertility, such as pollution and climate change, which have worsened the situation. Although current Artificial Intelligence models have not proven their effectiveness in real clinical applications, further research is necessary before they can be integrated into the treatment process.
Nikos Myrtakis, an expert in Artificial Intelligence, said that fertility applications mainly focus on predictive analysis. Their programming for embryo analysis allows for the assessment of the probability of pregnancy through images and videos. This research path requires collaboration between clinics and laboratories from different regions, in order to enhance the quality of the results.
Finally, Katerina Fountedaki, Professor of Civil Law, highlighted the necessity of protecting health data and regulating it at national and European level through the Regulation on the European Health Data Space. The importance of avoiding uncontrolled use of this data was highlighted, in order to ensure the protection of individuals.
